Poirot’s last Case

Curtain

Curtain was written by Agatha Christie in the 1940’s, during the war. It was stored in a bank vault in case she was killed in the Blitz. It was not published until 1975, shortly before her death.

One of Miss Marple’s hobbies?

Knitting

Knitting helped Miss Marple focus. In The Blood-Stained Pavement, a short story published in The Thirteen Problems, she says “Sitting here with one’s knitting, one just sees the facts”.

The name of one of Agatha Christie’s sleuths

Tuppence

Tuppence worked with Tommy. They are in seven books and started as 20-year-olds in The Secret Adversary in 1922 and ended as 70-year-olds in Postern of Fate, Agatha’s last written book.

What was the Dumb Witness?

A terrier dog

Agatha Christie loved dogs. The one in this novel is called ‘Bob’, but the dedication in the book reads: “To Dear Peter – most faithful of friends and dearest of companions, a dog in a thousand”.

In which country was Agatha Christie’s mother born?

Ireland

Agatha Christie’s mother was born in Ireland when her father was a British army officer stationed there. She had British nationality.

One of Agatha Christie’s favourite fruits?

Apples

Agatha Christie admitted to eating apples while in her bath, where she often came up with good ideas for plots.

The name of Poirot’s secretary?

Miss Lemon

Miss Lemon was famously played by Pauline Moran in the TV series starring David Suchet as Poirot.

What was Agatha Christie’s favourite drink?

Half a pint of cream

Her grandson Matthew recalled her drinking cream from a cup inscribed ‘Don’t be Greedy’. She enjoyed cream as a drink, sometimes with milk added.

The Nationality of one of Agatha Christie’s detectives?

Belgian

The idea for a Belgian detective came from Agatha Christie’s observations of Belgian refugees in Torquay during the First World War.

A friend of Miss Marple’s sees a woman being strangled on a passing train.

Cat Among the Pigeons

This book dates from a time when Agatha Christie was doing most of her writing at home in Winterbrook House, Wallingford.

An Agatha Christie mystery that mentions ‘Wallingford’

Cards on the Table

Published in 1936, just two years after Agatha and Max moved to Winterbrook House, this is the only book that specifically names ‘Wallingford’ as a location.
