The Nature Delusion, Why We Can't Fix the World without Fixing Ourselves - Tom Oliver

Our next science-focused event takes place next month. We're delighted that Tom Oliver will be coming to Wallingford to talk about The Nature Delusion - Why We Can't Fix The World Without Fixing Ourselves. Tom is a Professor in Ecology and Associate Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research (Environment) at the University of Reading.  He regularly advises the UK government and the European Environment Agency on environmental topics and is a frequent contributor to broadcast media.

 

The Nature Delusion invites you to see humanity’s place in the world in a radically new way and demonstrates how transforming our mindset can create a healthier, more resilient world.

Seven Kitchens: A Journey through India's Culinary Heritage with Torie True at Goring Village Hall

Join Torie for a cookery demonstration featuring recipes from her latest book and learn how to bring more spice into your kitchen.


Seven Kitchens: A Journey Through India’s Culinary Heritage is Torie True’s second cookbook. Her first, Chilli & Mint: Indian Home Cooking from a British Kitchen was published in November 2021 and was well received globally, being shortlisted for a Gourmand World Cookbook Award.


Samples of her cookery will be available to taste & your ticket includes a glass of wine or soft drink.

Our first Book Club at Mollie's Cafe took place in March, and it was lovely to meet some new faces  If you'd like to find out more, or sign up for this session, pop in to the shop or contact us.



Thursday 23rd April, 7pm

Classics Book Club

Classics Book Club will focus on classic and modern classic fiction and non-fiction from around the world.


All books would have less than 350 pages to keep them achievable.


Our books this month are: The Enchanted April by Elizabeth von Arnim and Mrs Palfrey At The Claremont by Elizabeth Taylor.  We'll be talking about both books, but you only need to read one!

 

Pop in to pick up your copy / book your slot and we'll see you there!

Next month, we are reading The Pretender by Jo Harkin with Jo joining us in the shop to talk about the book. The paperback version is out on 2nd April.

Brian Bilston at the Dorchester Festival

Brian Bilston comes to Dorchester Festival with his latest book, How to Lay an Egg with a Horse Inside. Get ready for an evening of comedy and laughter, as he takes us through the hows, whys and whats of reading, writing and enjoying poetry every day.


With over 500,000 followers on social media and a host of sell-out shows across the country, Brian Bilston is one of the UK’s most popular poets. He has published several bestselling collections of poetry, including You Took the Last Bus Home, Alexa, what is there to know about love? and Days Like These. His novel Diary of a Somebody was shortlisted for the Costa First Novel Award, and he has also written collections of poetry for younger readers.

Crime Writer Simon Mason in conversation with Robin Jones at the Dorchester Festival

Simon Mason’s critically acclaimed DI Ryan Wilkins Mysteries, have received numerous accolades and endorsements from writers such as Stephen Fry, Mick Herron, Ian Rankin and Clare Chambers. The much-anticipated fifth book in the series, The Dangerous Stranger, is out in hardback and Simon will be in conversation with local publisher Robin Jones on this at the Dorchester Festival, as well as his highly successful Finder Mysteries series.

Cookbook Club at Five Little Pigs

The premise of Cookbook Club is simple. We come together on the first Tuesday of every month to enjoy a meal cooked from a favourite cookbook, discuss recipes and ideas and have a glass (or two) of something fitting. Tickets are limited.


Our cookbook for this month is Gather by Gill Meller.


Come along to the shop at 6.30pm if you'd like to discuss the book and swap recipes with the other guests, before heading across to Five Little Pigs for Aimee's take on the recipes and a fabulous two course dinner from the book.

A book club where you could choose to read your own book!


Come along, chat about the books you're currently reading for 15 minutes or so (or just listen to the discussion - no participation necessary) then read quietly for 45 - 50 minutes in the company of like-minded bibliophiles.
