Latest News - April 2025

We believe strongly in supporting local writers, whether they be traditionally published, independently published or unpublished and so we're delighted to be running events with traditionally published authors Yasmin Cordery-Khan and Dani Heywood-Lonsdale in late April and early May, both of whom live in Oxfordshire.
Our Writers Group takes place bi-monthly and is proving to be great fun. Our next meeting is 21st May at 7.30pm in the shop. Anyone who loves to write is very welcome! At our last Writer's Group, Colin Wade kindly joined us and answered the group's questions candidly about his experience of the publishing industry. Colin has published six novels to date and has just set up 1in200.uk, which aims to help independently published and small press authors get their work into indie bookshops. We are delighted to be one of the first indie bookshops to join the scheme.
Cook Book Club
Our first Cook Book Club with our friends Five Little Pigs took place at the beginning of April. The first book was Julia Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking and Aimee cooked an absolutely delicious three course meal from the book and talked to us about Julia and how her sauce recipes are still Aimee's gold standard some 60 years after publication. Cook Book clubbers had fun discussing their own favourite recipes (and all sorts of other things) whilst enjoying the superb food, wine and cocktails.
The next Cook Book Club is on Tuesday 6th May and we'll be discussing and enjoying a meal from Ella Risbridger's Midnight Chicken. The evening session is already fully booked, but there are some lunchtime slots still available. Pop in to the shop to pick up the book, or contact us to pre-order a copy to pick up on the night. Lunch will take approximately 2 hours. To book, email littlepigsltd@gmail.com

Yasmin Cordery Khan
Wednesday 7th May, 7.30pm Goring Library
Overland was one of our favourite book club reads in hardback last year and so we're delighted that to celebrate the paperback launch Yasmin will be joining us at Goring Library to discuss her inspiration behind the book. Set in the present and the 1970s, Overland is the story of three young people who embark on the overland trail from London to Kathmandu in a beaten-up old Land Rover. A trip that promises adventure but ultimately ends with devastating consequences for everyone.
Complimentary refreshments will be served. All proceeds from the talk will go to the Friends of Goring Library. Book your tickets here or pick them up from Goring library.

Friends and Purpose
Lots of you will know Maff Potts from his sterling work with Camerados and for running the fabulous Winter Blues and Jazz festival. He's a brilliant pianist, polymath and all round lovely chap and now he's written a book that's full of heart about community, people and social justice.
If you only buy one book this month, make it this one.

Libro.fm - An Audiobook Alternative
We are often asked for audio books, and whilst some are still available to purchase on CD, numbers have declined in recent years. Up until now, we have directed customers to the Libby and Borrowbox apps, which offer free audiobook downloads for library members, but there are sometimes queues for books, which can put some customers off.
So, now we've signed up to Libro.fm, the Bookshop.org of digital audio books! Click here to find out more :)
